'We shot at you all day and there is no blood. It is a pleasure to work with you.'
The Situation
I was tasked to step in to a major programme, (that was suffering ‘catastrophic commercial and delivery problems’), and to mobilise the set-up of a manufacturing production line and deployment capability.
The issues involved:
- Over-commitments and subsequent failures.
- Lack of defined scope and direction.
- No commercial agreement in place resulting in spiralling costs and no realistic prospects for financial recovery.
- Commercially unviable payment terms.
- No organisational control.
The Task
Implementation of contract governance; change the customer engagement, reset expectations across multiple international organisations and implement financial management strategy and controls.
The Action / Approach
- Defined the key activities to be addressed to ensure control; (Presales, Pilot, Mobilisation and Delivery), and socialised this within the organisation and the customer business to ensure awareness.
- Identified the tasks to bring all activities under-control and assigned ownership within the organisation.
- Re-engages the clients to restructure the scope to ensure delivery.
- Renegotiated payment terms for my organisation.
- Implemented Governance across all organisations.
The Result
Recovered a failing £30m+ strategic manufacturing contract through restructured delivery structure.
