The Situation

I was tasked to step in to a major programme, (that was suffering ‘catastrophic commercial and delivery problems’), and to mobilise the set-up of a manufacturing production line and deployment capability.

The issues involved:

  1. Over-commitments and subsequent failures.
  2. Lack of defined scope and direction.
  3. No commercial agreement in place resulting in spiralling costs and no realistic prospects for financial recovery.
  4. Commercially unviable payment terms.
  5. No organisational control.

The Task

Implementation of contract governance; change the customer engagement, reset expectations across multiple international organisations and implement financial management strategy and controls.

The Action / Approach

  • Defined the key activities to be addressed to ensure control; (Presales, Pilot, Mobilisation and Delivery), and socialised this within the organisation and the customer business to ensure awareness.
  • Identified the tasks to bring all activities under-control and assigned ownership within the organisation.
  • Re-engages the clients to restructure the scope to ensure delivery.
  • Renegotiated payment terms for my organisation.
  • Implemented Governance across all organisations.

The Result

Recovered a failing £30m+ strategic manufacturing contract through restructured delivery structure.
