The Situation

Worked as Change Advisor/Consultant for a SaaS company that provides profit and margin improvement software to manufacturing companies with complex product portfolios.

For the software to be utilised effectively, it required a significant amount of behaviour change by the Sales organisation as the way customers were segmented was very different and the emphasis shifted from high volume to high margin. The software provider often struggled with adoption and thus clients weren’t achieving ROI as planned leading to a lack of renewals.

One of the key reasons was that while the SaaS company focused their implementation on the technical and process elements, clients often neglected to supplement the project team with change management experts.

 

The Task

I developed a Change Readiness Assessment that was carried out in parallel to the project implementation and helped to provide the sponsor team with a clear view as to how ready for implementation their organisation was. For the assessments, I hosted a number of workshops, carried out assessments and interviews with a range of stakeholders.

The Action / Approach

I designed the diagnostics process & tools leveraging the Prosci Methodology.

I used my expertise and the knowledge of the client to provided recommendations on four key change management components:

  • Sponsor Plan – supporting sponsors in leading change from the front & building alliances
  • Communication Plan – ensuring ADKAR was considered as part of the communication strategy
  • Manager Support Plan – ensuring people managers were able to manage resistance and lead change with their teams.
  • Training Plan – ensuring training also focused on mindsets, behaviours and new skills beyond technology

I worked with the wider team to present the key findings to both the project team and project sponsor.

 

The Result

The focus on the people side of change increase the rate of adoption and utilisation of the tool.

Workshops helped to increase cross-functional collaboration and decision making.

The change readiness recommendations were also leveraged for the deployment of the same software in another region.
