Built a SaaS platform to connect fragmented trade business operations
The Situation
Owner-managed trade businesses were often running customer enquiries, jobs, engineer schedules, site paperwork, quotes and invoices across disconnected systems, spreadsheets, messages and paperwork.
Having experienced these operational problems first-hand, we identified an opportunity to build a platform around the way trade businesses actually work rather than asking businesses to adapt to generic project management software.
The Task
As Co-Founder, CTO, Lead Developer and Product Owner, I took responsibility for turning those operational problems into a viable SaaS product.
My role covered requirements discovery, product strategy, workflow design, technical development, prioritisation, testing, release decisions and ongoing development based on user feedback.
The Action / Approach
I translated real operational problems into connected digital workflows spanning CRM, customers, jobs, scheduling, field operations, RAMS and compliance, quotes, invoices and reporting.
I led the product and development work, deciding how workflows should operate, prioritising functionality and developing the platform around practical use by both office and site teams.
I used feedback from users and operators to test assumptions and refine priorities before committing development time.
We also integrated AI directly into the platform through Donna, enabling users to retrieve operational information, create and update records, support scheduling, produce customer-facing content and reduce repetitive administration through natural-language interaction.
The Result
SiteMaster has moved from an identified operational problem to a live SaaS platform being used by trade businesses.
The platform currently reports:
- 50+ companies
- 300+ jobs managed
- £500k+ invoiced
- £2.5m+ quoted
It provides one connected workflow from initial customer enquiry through planning, field delivery, compliance documentation and invoicing, reducing the need for businesses to piece together operations across separate systems.
