Board Effectiveness - from Governance to Collective Leadership
The Situation
A Board of a multi-entity organisation was operating with strong individual capability but limited collective alignment, impacting decision quality and strategic momentum.
I was engaged by the Chair following a recommendation from a NED who had experienced my work in another board setting.
The Task
The Chair sought my support to strengthen the Board’s collective leadership, improving how it operated as a unit and how effectively it supported the executive team.
The Action / Approach
I used a Collective Leadership Assessment to surface patterns in behaviour, decision-making, and group dynamics, creating a shared, evidence-based view of effectiveness.
We worked through facilitated sessions to reshape boardroom behaviours, clarify roles, and embed more effective ways of engaging, challenging, and aligning.
The Result
Within a year, Board effectiveness scores increased by 29%, decision-making cycle times reduced by 23%, and strategic initiatives progressed with greater clarity and pace.
“This was the first time we truly saw ourselves as a Board. The shift in how we work together has been transformative.”
