Transform $120m+ revenue but loss-making NASDAQ listed Consumer Electronics Company.

The Task

As COO/CFO – to conceive and deliver a viable strategic plan and successfully implement it.

The Action / Approach

  • Turnaround plan. Outsourcing design and manufacturing to Asia, building Six Sigma teams in Asia to drive quality and cost: engaging key suppliers – Toshiba and Samsung. Establishing an effective product supply chain with its own USA and EU distribution centres, to exceed consumer retailers’ delivery expectations was key to strategy. Losses turned to profit.
  • ‘SmartDisk’ retail brand strategy. Set strategy – from 100% OEM supplier to focus on 100% product placement/channels to market with national consumer electronics retailers/distributors. Achieved traction – seven of the top 10 US retailers.
  • Pricing, contracts, and relationships. Key to strategy – achieved product placement and required replacement sales volumes with Apple, Best Buy, Office Depot, Wal-Mart, PC World and John Lewis. Established e-commerce retail store, first-year revenues $5m+.

Implemented turnaround and strategic shift from OEM supplier of consumer technology to retail-focused company operating profitably.
