The Situation

A major retail organisation was migrating enterprise applications to Microsoft Azure. The programme covered multiple business units with different levels of complexity and readiness.

A workable migration sequence needed to reflect application dependencies and the readiness of technical, business and operational stakeholders across each business unit.

The Task

My role was to lead the programme delivery approach and work with stakeholders to agree the migration waves and their sequencing.

The priority was to establish an achievable plan that aligned technical delivery with business and operational readiness, giving stakeholders a shared understanding of when their applications would move and what needed to be ready.

The Action / Approach

I worked with technical, business and operational stakeholders to structure migration waves by business unit, taking account of complexity, dependencies and overall readiness.

I brought these perspectives together to agree and lock in the sequencing, ensuring that migration planning reflected the ability of all affected stakeholders to support the move.

This provided a coordinated delivery sequence across the business units, with readiness considered as a collective responsibility throughout planning.

The Result

The programme progressed through migration waves organised by business unit, with sequencing agreed across technical, business and operational stakeholders.

This established a shared basis for coordinating the application moves to Azure and aligning migration activity with the readiness of the people and operations affected.
