The Situation

When Aston Martin were faced with multiple complex problems during the launch of the 2024 Vanquish, they needed additional resource and skill, to lead them to rapid and robust problem solving. I was engaged in 2 projects, that I ran cross functional, rapid problem solving teams for on their behalf. As Project leader on both, I managed the AML teams of Senior Leaders allowing the vehicles to be launched to the market by the end of 2024.

The Task

The 2 problems, one chassis, one engine, were of a complex and multi factoral nature. The Aston Martin teams of experts (over 20 in each team) had exhausted their knowledge and had been unable to understand the problem cause, let alone identify and implement robust fixes. I was drafted in to use my knowledge, experience and skillset, to lead the teams of experts to rapid solutions.

The Action / Approach

I gathered the teams, implemented a new MOS (Management Operating System) and applied appropriate tools from my toolkit to rapidly eliminate potential causes for the issue, thus allowing us to focus valuable time and resource on the ;significant few’ potential causes remaining. Given that testing costs were running in the several £10ks per day, not wasting time was essential.

The Result

Through the appropriate use of hard and soft skills (negotaition, managing conflict etc.) I was able to quickly lead the teams to identifying root cause and implementing robust permanent corrective actions, without which, AML would have been able to launch vehicles on time, costing significant sums in lost sales and customer satisfaction/retention.
