Enabling a Global bank to be compliant with new European regulations (PSD2)
The Situation
This tier 1 global bank bank had to be compliant with the EU’s second Payments Services Directive (PSD2) by January 2018 in seven European countries, including the UK.
The Task
To set-up and run the bank’s PSD2 program to its successful conclusion.
This involved coordinating the work of all of the bank’s sixteen businesses (including Asset Servicing, Corporate Trust, Markets and Treasury Services) to ensure they are compliant with the requirements of each of their European regulators (eg UK, Luxembourg, Ireland).
The Action / Approach
Worked closely with the bank’s European payments operations and the bank’s external legal advisors, internal Legal, Technology, Risk and Compliance. Set up twelve working groups including GDPR, and legal repapering. Implemented a particularly complex governance model due to the wide variety of stakeholders, locations and project streams.
Liaised with the bank’s IT architects to determine the approach to be taken to develop the bank’s APIs for Open Banking. Managed the creation of a number of Business Requirements Documents for development and enhancement of IT systems by partners in the US to enable access by PISPs and AISPs.
The Result
All of the bank’s businesses were compliant with PSD2 before the January 2018 deadline.
