Architecture approach for small business transforms their digital environment
The Situation
A local company who provided publications incorporating reviews from global medical journals to the New Zealand medical profession were looking to uplift their website. They were running on an outdated Content Management System (CMS) and had lost trust in their existing provider. They were looking to replace the website with a solution that followed modern design standards but didn’t know where to start.
One of the biggest challenges with the existing environment was that all subscriber data, a core asset in itself, was hosted in the embedded CMS database. This made changes to the tables very difficult and ensured that reporting and data management activities were largely manual.
The Task
I was brought in to help identify how the client should proceed with the project, provide guidance on the key decisions that were needed, and confirm whether they should stick with the existing vendor or change
The Action / Approach
Identifying the need for a strategic approach, I developed an architecture vision for the client which highlighted the business direction and what the technology setup needed to be to deliver that.
I then worked with the client to select the right vendor to deliver the project
The Result
A new vendor has been selected to run the project
The subscriber database has been separated from the website, enabling integration with tool-sets including email.
I am actively involved in the project as a product manager ensuring the end result is delivered to client needs.
Feedback from the client has been positive
“We value Anthony’s technical expertise, advice and input to our business. He has guided us in clarifying our IT and database strategy, assisted with vendor negotiations, alerted us to key issues and responded to our questions and concerns with a balanced approach.”
“Anthony has provided key input to our business strategy supporting us with high-level technical skills that we didn’t have in-house. His approach is professional and thorough and he has the gift of being able to explain technical concepts in plain English. Anthony’s advice has been invaluable when dealing with third party suppliers and it has been highly beneficial to have a technological voice at the table when making key decisions.”
