Mobile Wallet Strategy
The Situation
Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Alipay are about to enter the Swiss market, and two existing local mobile wallet solutions are competing for market share. A credit card company asked what strategy and which payment solution should be followed to ensure a) getting overall growth, b) betting on the right/ winning technology/ solution and c) investing wisely with limited write-offs
The Task
Together with an internal manager, I was tasked to research the market, explore strategic options incl. estimation of implementation efforts, and pre-negotiate parter agreements for sustainable revenue splits and fees
The Action / Approach
– Perform market research about global payment and mobile wallet schemes and (IT) solution providers
– Negotiate with local payment players a sustainable Swiss market development strategy
– Negotiate commercial (fees, revenue splits) models with all potential partners
– Outline all strategic options and down-select preferred way forwards
– Ellaborate implementation activities, efforts, and timelines for the short-listed strategic solution components
– Prepare go to market incl. technical system and operational process changes
The Result
Successful go live with Apple Pay and Samsung Pay for selected premium card products.
