Appian User Application
The Situation
At Barclays, control gap identification and risk reporting were fragmented across multiple systems and manual processes. This limited visibility for senior leadership and made it difficult to proactively manage operational and regulatory risk.
The Task
I was responsible for leading the design and implementation of a centralized, enterprise-level Appian application that would be used by over 200 stakeholders to streamline risk identification, reporting, and governance.
The Action / Approach
I led the end-to-end delivery of the application, starting with gathering requirements from cross-functional stakeholders across Risk, Compliance, and Operations.
I translated those requirements into user stories with clear acceptance criteria and worked closely with technology teams to design a user-friendly interface aligned to business needs.
A key focus for me was user adoption, so I:
- Designed and delivered training for 60+ users
- Created supporting materials and communication plans
- Incorporated user feedback into iterative improvements
I also ensured strong governance by aligning the application to control frameworks and embedding it into existing reporting and oversight processes.
The Result
The application was successfully adopted across the organization, enabling early identification of control gaps and significantly improving risk transparency.
It enhanced senior management oversight and supported more proactive decision-making, ultimately reducing the likelihood of regulatory and operational issues.
One of the key challenges was balancing technical constraints with user expectations, and I addressed that by prioritizing iterative feedback loops during development.
