Situation
A business development team comprising 50 staff are finding it difficult to generate new leads. Cold-calling is no longer an option as prospect clients do not take unplanned calls. Word of mouth is great and generates a big proportion of new business, but it does not meet the desired growth plans of the business.

A few members of the sales team are having some success on LinkedIn, but they have no training and no strategy. They don't know what works and what doesn't. There are many more questions than answers.

Task
I was tasked with the role of providing training and a strategy to turn LinkedIn into a positive lead generation tool.

Action
I pulled together a strategy session with the senior management team to precisely identify what was required. We put a commercial framework together which ensured ther would be a profitable outcome. A training schedule was agreed over three months, starting with the senior management team, the marketing department, HR/recruitment and lastly the sales teams.

Results
The results of the training were remarkable. New business pipelines were improved within a matter of weeks. Prospect engagement rose by 300% in two months. By the fourth month, the biggest order the company had ever taken has originated from a new connection on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is now a critical part of the sales and marketing function. Existing employees continue to build their knowledge and experience whilst all new employees undergo a detailed LinkedIn introduction session.
