About Brendan

Key strengths include: analysis of business requirements including gap analysis of changes required to people, processes, systems & operating models, defining functional & non-functional requirements; bridging the gap between business & technical teams in order to translate commercial requirements into best-in-class technical solutions; certified TOGAF 9 enterprise/business architect, with a deep understanding of both commercial & technology considerations, facilitating agreement of solutions that satisfy business objectives while delivering superior ROI & TCO; and leading multi-disciplinary teams to design, develop & deploy fit-for-purpose solutions with experience in pre-sales consultancy, project management, ecommerce, card payments & systems integration.

Current Role Details

Engaged as a Business Architect by AEVI International GmbH, a Fintech innovator in the payments space. Responsible for requirements management and full business architecture of AEVI Marketplace, an SaaS platform that allows merchant acquirers to sell business-orientated Android apps to small/medium sized merchants with new generation Chip and PIN devices.

Initially engaged for a 2 month requirements scoping exercise, contracts extended as the Marketplace was developed. The Marketplace is now live with World Pay and other leading merchant acquirers globally.

Agile development, user stories, business process models, data models, sequence diagrams, gap analyses, documentation.

Brendan's Valuable Contributions

(Case Studies)

AEVI International GmbH's acquirer bank customer wanted to integrate its instance of AEVI's PaaS Marketplace web portal with a Payment Service Provider (PSP) to enable recurring subscription payments by merchants for 3rd party B2B Android apps.

I was engaged to research regulatory issues and to assess the impact of the change on the acquirer bank's operating model and on the PaaS web portal system architecture.

Liaised with Product Owners to document requirements/user stories; provided SME in discussions with acquirer bank; researched US regulation & statutes for recurring card payments; created short list of potential legal liability risks; created business & system process models for PSP’s API; and proposed operating model.

-Make more informed decisions, quickly, objectively and transparently
-Improved confidence in and quality and repeatability of documents, artifacts and models
-Help to understand complexity
-Build credibility and trust across the business

Succeeded by identifying regulatory & legal liabilities to enable AEVI & the acquirer bank to make an informed business decision, based on an understanding of the regulatory obligations, the further due diligence that would be required, the changes to the acquirer bank's call centre operations that would be required and an outline system architecture for the required integration piece.

Value was delivered by;
-Communicate business capabilities, maturity and the value of architecture
-Turn strategy into projects and / or programs
-Ensure alignment and integration of architecture to business strategy
-Design and maintain the future roadmap of the business

Pains relieved included;
-Lack of knowledge transfer
-Getting a seat at the right table
-Lack of strategic focus on architecture from the business
